She Let Go

The following words were forwarded to me by one of my best friends. Unfortunately, I don’t know who the original author is, so I can’t give credit where credit is due, but it seems like someone read my mind and decided to write out my thoughts for me. Everyone goes through a period in their lives, where they hold on to things…whether it’s a past love, past pain, past memories, past happiness… And everyone goes through another period in their lives, where they are trying to let go. Some people succeed and some people never really do… So this is for everyone out there still learning to let go and I hope it gives you that extra strength. Speaking from personal experience…letting go, really is the best gift you can give yourself. I haven’t looked back since and I can honestly say, this is the happiest I have been in a very long time!

Without a thought or a word, she let go.
She let go of fear.

She let go of judgments.

She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.
… She let go of the committee of indecision within her.

She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons.
Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.
She didn’t ask anyone for advice.

She didn’t read a book on how to let go.
She just let go.
She let go of all the memories that held her back.

She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.
She let go of the planning and all of the calculations

about how to do it just right.

She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it.
She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer.

She made no public announcement.

She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope.
She just let go.
She didn’t analyze whether she should let go.

She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter.

She didn’t utter one word.
She just let go.
No one was around when it happened.

There was no applause or congratulations.
No one thanked her or praised her.

No one noticed a thing.
Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.
There was no effort.

There was no struggle. It wasn’t good. It wasn’t bad.
It was what it was, and it is just that.
In the space of letting go, she let it all be.

A small smile came over her face.

A light breeze blew through her.
And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.
Here’s to giving ourselves the gift of letting go…

  1. I really like that picture. I recently went from goodbye to letting go. It meant that unlike good bye… I know that the last time I held him was the last time I was going to and the tricky part now is trying to be happy about it. It’s easier in a way because now at least I’m not waiting for that last day to come and it’s a relief to not be dreading impending pain.

    • thank you! I let go about a year ago and it was like I could finally breath again. It will be hard at first and there will be moments when you take a step back instead of forward, but in the end, it will be worth it! I hope this post helped you to know that you are making the right move!

  2. Thank you! Just knowing someone else truly get it makes the light at the end of the tunnel seems closer 🙂
